Sushi experiment

Q: Share a memory or experience associated with a particular type of food or a specific meal.

A: One of my favorite meals is sushi at Rusan's. Rusan's is an edgy sushi bar off of Barret Parkway. i love to indulge on thier California rolls, crunchy crab rolls, and vegetable fried rice.
I had never tried sushi before the age of eighteen. I had always been a bit apprehensive about eating anything not fully cooked. I never thought I would even try it.
One Valentine's day a few years back I had just started dating a guy that I was really interested in. I remember how hard I had tried to impress him. I had went to the tanning bed, got my nails done, bought a new dress from BeBe and heels to match. I have never felt as beautiful as I did that night.  When we were in the car i still didn't know where he was taking me. When he pulled in the shopping centerI saw Olive Garden and got excited. He drove past Olive Garden and parked in front of Rusan's. Finally he informed me we were having sushi. My heart sank. I really wanted to impress him but I was grossed out by the idea of eating raw fish. I pretended to be excited. Inside we began talking and my nerves settled. The waiter came twice to ask us if we were ready to order. I read the ingrediants under each roll on the menu and finally found one i felt comfortable with, the California roll which consisted of avacado cucumber and crab meat. All were things that I loved. When my plate arrived I was still quite intiminated by it. I watched Bobby use his chopsticks like a pro and I had no chopsticks skill what so ever. At least it was an ice breaker. I remember trying the Wasabi in the corner of my plate thinking that it was extra avacado on the side. Besides that epic FAIL, we ended up having the best time and he asked me to be his girlfriend. Rusan's has become a regular spot that we go with friends. The night he proposed to me two years later we atesushi. I always think about the very first time I ate sushi every time I eat it.

Where did dinner come from?

Today after school, I only had an hour before I had to be somewhere so I grabbed a quick bite to eat at one of my favorite fast food resturants, Wendy's. Lately I have found myself over my head in exspenses and have resulted to a dollar menu diet. I eat fast food for at least 2 out of 3 meals a day. I know that it is unhealthy but being independent from my parents mostimes it is all I can afford. However, this fast food lifestyle is all too farmiliar for me because growing up my mother did not like to cook.
As I took a bite out of my number 1 with cheese, I began to think about this assignment. As a former vegetarian I cannot help but to be conscience about where my food comes from. I know that the meat in my cheese burger is not from a sunny green-grass farm somewhere in Kentucky. I have not taken the time to research Wendy's in particur, but I am aware of how most of fast food beef is manufactured.
My only guess is that of what I have seen on Food Inc. where cows have no room to move, stand in their own feces all day and eat an unatural diet of corn and antibiotics. I know that just one burger can be cotaminated with thousands of cows which dramtically increases the risk of diseased cotaining meat. my nerves are calmed however by eating the "all natural" fries with "real sea salt" because that just sounds healthier than other french fries. Even so, I choose to eat Wendy's because it seems to be of higher quality than other fast food chains. But as I write this I am starting to feel a bit ignorant and feel like I should do some research to investigate that.
I am going to do my research paper on the fast food industry and i want to focus on the harmful way the food is produced and also the health risks assosiated with eating fast food.
Then you have to take in to account the lettuce, onions and tomatos, which was probably from a regular farm, but possibly was genetically altered? Paranoid much? I am not sure because you can never be sure in these days. The cheese on my burger is probably from some supplier somewhere and made in a factory- not a farm. The bread? I'm sure it is from a similiar place as the cheese. Not that i care about that, i don't expect there to be a bakery in the back of Wendy's.
I hope through my research paper that I will know exactly where my fast food comes from... or maybe I should hope I don't find out.
